Avia Hannah Bearg (z'l) died on September 17, 2000, at the young age of 18. The annual blood drive was put together by her brother Isaac Bearg and the Oheb Shalom Social Action Committee to honor her memory. Avia was a vibrant young woman and a talented musician (she played 6 instruments). When diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer at age 16, and told there was no cure, she nevertheless fought to survive and was able to do so because of the donations of blood and platelets by total strangers. To enable others, especially those fighting childhood cancers, to survive and possibly be cured, this blood drive is critical.
