Oheb Goes to Church!

Sunday, June 29, 2025 3 Tammuz 5785

10:00 AM - 12:00 PMFranklin St. John's United Methodist Church

Rabbi Treu writes:

Worried about antisemitism? Here’s something you can do about it. Come to church this Sunday.

When a United Methodist church in Weequahic reaches out to a Jewish congregation in South Orange to get to know us... we say yes. I’m not sure how else we sow the seeds of peace and understanding. And get this: they have graciously offered us a room at 9 am in which to hold morning minyan. The pastor has arranged for ushers to greet us as a group at 9:45, and seat us amongst their members so we can really feel a part of things. Following the service, we will meet with Rev. Dr. William Carter III for a Q&A.

Please join me in accepting this gracious invitation; I can’t think of a better way to combat anti-semitism than by showing up. This is the next step in an unfolding relationship that began with their coming to Oheb last month for an Interfaith Seder and will continue with our inviting them back to Oheb for shabbat in the coming months.

This event takes place at Franklin St. John's United Methodist Church, 142 Maple Avenue, Newark. Directions.
